Early Years & Foundation Stage

From September 2023, Oakwood School will accept children from age 4 upwards, into Reception.

The EYFS, consisting of the Nursery and Reception classes, is led by a dedicated, caring and highly qualified team of teachers and teaching assistants to ensure your child receives the best possible start to their school life.

We adhere to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which incorporates seven areas of learning: Communication and Language Development; Physical Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Literacy Development; Mathematics; Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design. Literacy is taught through the Letters and Sounds programme with reading and writing being part of the learning experiences in Reception.

We follow our bespoke Character Education programme with age appropriate targets focusing on personal development. The Early Excellence Assessment Tracker, an online assessment tool, enables us to provide a differentiated curriculum. Each classroom and area, including the outdoor space, is equipped with open-ended resources and was designed to provide challenge as well as creative and innovative opportunities to learn through play.
