History

At Oakwood we are careful to teach our pupils History from identifying and describing events beyond living memory to think critically and develop perspective and judgement.

The children are inspired to gain a sound knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world.

In KS1 children find out about the past using artifacts and various sources. Children are encouraged to ask questions, look at evidence and make judgements based on their work.

In KS2 we use the Reach academy scheme of work. This is a rich knowledge-based curriculum which helps children to have a deep and factual understanding of History. They use what they have learnt to write an essay at the end of each topic.

At Oakwood, History is taught chronologically so that the children can see how things change and develop over time.
